Ammo at Walmart
I went into Walmart yesterday and picked up a few boxes of WWB .40 and the guy told me their next ammo shipment would come in last night and would be on the shelves by 7am today.
Well, I was there about 7:05 am and indeed there was a shopping car full of cases of ammo (22 cases). All sorts and calibers. So I wait. And wait and wait. By 7:30 am an employee grabbed the full cart and took it back to the storage part of the store, without putting ANY of it out. And the shelves did have some ammo on it, but that load could have gone a long ways toward filling in some holes. I'VE ALWAYS THOUGHT WALMART WAS HOLDING OUT ON AMMO. NOW I HAVE PROOF! I'm going back now (8:30 am) to see if they actually have put any on the shelf. I'll report in when I get back. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
There are 2 walmarts in my area, both now have limits on how many boxes people can buy. The last time I bought 2 of the winchester cases of 5*100 .45 ACP. Instead of 1000 rounds, I bet the most they would let me buy now is 200.
You don't see any signs on the cases restricting the quantity you can purchase? You should have grabbed a case box or two out of the cart. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
I found a couple boxes of 50 rd WWB and about 10 x 50 rd boxes of Federal FMJ in .40 S&W last night. And both stores near me seem to have a boatload of Federal .223 55gr FMJ in 100 rd boxes....

Re: Ammo at Walmart
One Walmart here only puts out 2-4 boxes of handgun ammo at a time. They say thats all they have...but I been there enough that I finally ran into a cool employee that told me different.
They limit what they put out on the shelves so that other customers, not just hoarders, can have ammo to buy (so they say). They limit each person to 2 boxes of ammo, any kind. They have a small safe under the counter that has backup ammo in it to replace on the shelves after the other boxes are sold. I knew they were doing this before though as I would buy all their ammo then come back a couple hours later and the shelves would be restocked...not from a shipment either. Well, thats one Walmart here...another does things differently. They stock their shelves with whatever they have...and let the hoarders buy it all if they choose. You have to arrive right around 7pm when they start stocking their shelves from the days delivery if you want any ammo...as the local hoarders are waiting too. I think all Walmarts do things a bit different...so what you see at one doesn't mean its happening at the other. |

Well, I just got back. They DID NOT put any handgun ammo on the shelf. They NOW keep it locked up under the counter and you literally have to go and FIND someone to sell you TWO BOXES. No, not TWO BOXES PER CALIBER, but TWO BOXES. PERIOD. The guy pointed to 'the sign'. The only problem is 'the sign' is only put in place on the weekends. So I'll go back during the week and see the regular guy. MAYBE. MAYBE NOT. As this weekend is the Tanner gun show, I went there and got 500 rnds (5 x 100) of WWB in 165 gr. Cost me $10 more per box. BUT I also purchased three 50 cal surplus ammo cans for $10 each. That's $20 less per can than any of the surplus stores locally, who sell them for $30 each, but they are not ACTUALLY selling any at that price. So it was basically a wash, price wise, but I supported two people that are at the gun show every show. Both have been at the shows for as long as I have, or longer. So I'll support their efforts with my money. F Walmart. F the surplus stores. I'd much rather have my money going to someone at the gunshow than to Walmart or the surplus stores that are trying to either limit my purchases or screw me with excessive prices. OH, BTW - Walmarts concept is an old one. It's called 'loss leader', which is where a retailer will sell you milk or flour or sugar at less than what they actually pay to get you to shop there and they HOPE you will spend MORE money buying their stuff that's not at a low price (loss leader). And realize that most retailers limit the AMOUNT you can purchase at the low price and you can't actually buy more at the 'regular' price. So restrictions on the amount you can purchase is an old concept. But I don't patronize those stores either. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
Not trying to steal your thread or anything, just an FYI, i stopped by Ga. Arms yesterday and they had .380, 9mm, .40 ,357 mag and .357 sig in stock. Out of .38 and .45.

J, No biggie. The question is, how many boxes will they LET you buy at one time. I'm getting tired of all the BS games Walmart is playing. I like their pricing, but their attitude sux... |

My bet is that they will stop selling ammo within 1 year. Maybe this is a test to see how it affects sales. Local stores, except wal-mart seem to be restocking much more often. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
Being curious about this ammo thing, I went to the local Walmart a week ago and talked with the guy there. He said they get a shipment in the evening, lock it up and don't put it out until the next morning because it was disappearing over night.
He said they only get it in every once in a while and not regularly. He said the best way was to call the store to see if there was a shipment and ask when it would be put out. Kind of weird...no ammo anymore.... |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
Stopped by local Fl Wally World tonite, only pistol ammo was 2 boxes of 44 magnum at 32.95 each, rifle ammo only 06 and 306 box or two of each at 17.95, had some 22 lots of shotgun ammo though.

Re: Ammo at Walmart
I believe the walmart situation is caused by suppliers..they are most likely locked into contracts of set price....so...walmart is just trying to ensure everyone gets some...I would imagine suppliers are getting as little as possible to walmart due to getting better prices elsewhere......
You can only get 100 rounds of ammo from walmart...if yer nice you can sneak a few more in...not including shotgun ammo. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
6 boxes here

Re: Ammo at Walmart
My local Walmart suddenly had all sorts of Federal rifle ammunition in stock. The packages are red now instead of the blue I was buying a couple months ago - not sure if that is a different type of ammo or not.

Re: Ammo at Walmart
Patriots are still buying everything in sight.

Re: Ammo at Walmart
Finally, a friend called to let me know our WM got in several 100-rd boxes of WWB 9mm fmj for $20 per...I bet they are all gone by now. It's about the only pistol ammo they have, save a few boxes of CCI 22lr.

Re: Ammo at Walmart
I went to my location tonight after an online transaction dude told me he goes to it and it has 9mm "all the time" and .45 every now and then.
Of course, all they had was a buttload of .40S&W, I mean a couple hundred boxes probably. Ive thought about buying some to see if someone would trade their .45 for the .40S&W thats available to be + cash. There hasnt been crap around me for 8+ months. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
Can't believe what some places are charging for ammo now. My Brother called me last week, and said "Have you heard about this ammo shortage thing?" LOL! I almost coughed up a lung! DUH! I must have told him about this at least twice in the past few years!

Re: Ammo at Walmart
Went in to walmart yesterday. The rifle rack was totally bare. No pistol rounds at all. They had a couple of hunting calibers. That's about it. They did have some Federal buckshot. I bought 6 boxes for a total of 30 rounds. They limit you to 6 boxes of ammo per day at my walmart.

Re: Ammo at Walmart
I went to Wally World Sunday around midnight and there was plenty of bird shot on the shelves and some assorted ammo in the locked cabinet. No 22 bulk, 45, 9mm, 30-30, 40, 00 shot or slugs.
Went again Tuesday around 9:00pm. They had the same bird shot and nothing in the lock up cabinet. Nothing. Zip. Went back today around noon and the guy was stocking up the locked cabinet. No 45, 9mm. Some of the boxes in the cart were open and he had 410 slugs and 22s falling on the floor. I looked thru the cart and still no 45 or 9mm or 00shot or slugs. No cases in the cart, just individual boxes. Federal 550 count 22s were $15.47+$0.10 ammo fee. |

Re: Ammo at Walmart
Hit the local Walmart today - they finally got some stuff in.
Remington 40pks of .308 for $33 Remington 250pks of .40S&W for ~$67 Still enforcing the 6 pack limit, picked up 6 of the .308 - will clean them out tomorrow if there is anything left. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
Fatboy,
I don't know what is used for or why it is even added on to the price of ammo, but their is a $0.10 ammo fee for each box of ammo that I bought today and for each box I have bought this past year. I guess it's just another way for the government to stick their grubby hands into my pocket.I bought some arrows for my son a few months back and there was an ammo fee on them too. It might just be a Tennessee thing. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
I just back from 3 weeks on a business trip. I checked 3 Walmart's while in Kansas. All had some common types that I needed but not all stores had every type. The Florida stores are still running low every week on all types. Regional shortages all over.

Re: Ammo at Walmart
I have two local Walmarts, the one I frequent had 8x250pks of .40S&W a few days ago, they are all gone as of yesterday. Luckily I got the 10x40pks of .308 they had in stock (2 visits of course, due to the 6 box limit).
Hit the other local shop on Sunday and they completely removed the rifle ammo from the locked case (the locked case is gone too), so I had to 'ask' what they had. I rattled off a few common calibers and he said 'no' to all of them, who knows what they have now - they could have had nothing for all I knew. It is now locked up somewhere out of the public's view. |
Re: Ammo at Walmart
Minnesota WM's are getting regular shipments of handgun ammo.
They had 50 round box's of 9mm for $9.50 a box -- limit 6 box's. So after 3 trips for the parking lot I got what I wanted!:yippee: |
